Digital Desk: A minor pipeline burst incident occurred on Thursday in Guwahati's Maligaon neighbourhood on the first day of the Ambubachi Mela, following multiple incidences of pipeline bursts in the city.

The event took place in the Pandu neighbourhood near the flyover that was still being built. Up to a few metres of water could be seen flowing out.

Even though no significant losses or damages to property were reported, it raises questions about how many such instances will be reported in the city that could endanger the lives of the populace.

A pipeline burst incident happened at Sector 2 in the Noonmati area on June 20. According to sources, the incident momentarily stopped the area's water supply.

Later, the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL) made clear that the impacted pipeline belonged to them by the Kamrup Metro District Administration.

Recently, a Guwahati Jal Board water pipeline that had just been built ruptured near Commerce College Link Road on Rajgarh Road.  No injuries or fatalities were reported in the incident, however, property worth thousands of rupees was damaged.

In the Kharguli neighbourhood of Guwahati, a Gammon JICA water supply mainline pipe ruptured last month. The rupture resulted in a huge water gush that damaged at least 40 homes and washed away several vehicles. According to reports, the incident affected approximately 600 people, and about 30 people were hurt.

In the incident, one person—Sumitra Rabha—died. She identified as one of the residents of homes devastated by the water surge home. The injured were taken care of while being rushed to the local hospitals.
