Assam's Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary reopens for tourists from today

Guwahati: Assam's Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary reopened today after its regular closing through the monsoon period. The Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary located in central Assam's Morigaon district is known for the dense population of Great Indian Rhinoceros.

The flood during the monsoon season caused damaged to the roadways and bridges inside the sanctuary. However, all these damages were repaired to welcome visitors.

The official stated due to COVID-19, the wildlife sanctuary beheld less footfall than regular times last year. Therefore, this resulted in the collection of less revenue.

The nature reserve encompassing 38.85 sq km on the south bank of river Brahmaputra has more than 100 rhinos. It also gives shelter to 2,000 wild buffaloes, hogs, barking deer, leopards, different species of snakes, and tortoises.

The grasslands of the reserve provide a home for Assam's second-largest population of the Great Indian Rhinoceros.
