Digital Desk: Another water pipeline installed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) collapsed on Sunday in Guwahati's Geetanagar neighbourhood, adding to residents' concerns.

The region was overwhelmed after a water pipeline ruptured, creating major disruption to pedestrians.

It should be noted that the city has been dealing with periodic water pipeline break occurrences since the Kharguli disaster, which claimed one life and injured several more.

Previously, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that such incidents are nothing new and that no one can stop them.

In response to the multiple water pipeline bust incidents in the city, CM Sarma compared water pipeline bursts in Delhi, Kerela, and other regions of the country to be more obliterating than those in Assam.

However, there is a reasonable way to address this issue using SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition), he stated.

As stated by the chief minister, SCADA specialists will be responsible for ensuring that the parameters in the water delivery system are monitored and managed at the appropriate time and whenever there is an incidence of a water pipeline rupture or any type of leakage.

"In Kerela, approximately 22,000 cases of water pipeline bursts." Similarly, there have been incidents of water pipeline bursts in Delhi; no one can stop this, but there is a scientific method to overcome this, which is known as 'SCADA'; it is a control system architecture consisting of computers, networked data communications, and graphical user interfaces for high-level supervision of machines and processes," highlighted the chief minister.

"I have seen a number of these incidents in Guwahati City since I was a child; nothing can prevent water pipelines from bursting." However, the most important aspect is damage. The Kharguli incident is referred to as 'Damage' because the SCADA technicians failed to cut the water supply after the leakage, resulting in serious injury to both human life and property. Oil India Limited (OIL) receives reports of pipeline leaks in the state regularly, but they have always been able to halt them when necessary. We failed to achieve this in the case of the Kharguli water pipeline burst," CM Sarma stated.

CM Sarma further stated that if people in Guwahati want to use the water supply facilities, they must mentally prepare for such eventualities.
