Digital Desk: Assam government presented the budget today, on March 16, 2023. The state government presented a deficit budget of Rs 935.23 crore for the financial year 2023–24. Fresh funds have been announced for recruitment and microentrepreneurship promotion. Finance Minister Ajanta Neog presented the budget to Parliament.
She announced that the government will invest Rs 5,000 crore to "transform" over 2 lakh unemployed youths into job creators. In the budget speech, the minister said, "After adding the receipts of Rs 1,80,298.83 crore under the public account and Rs 2,000 crore under the contingency fund, the amount of the aggregate receipt to Rs 3,21,742.71 crore. Taking into account the expenditure of Rs 1,79,326.48 crore under the public account and Rs 2,000 crore under the contingency fund, the aggregate expenditure for the year is estimated at Rs 3,21,081.75 crore."
The minister stated that the anticipated transactions for the year will result in a surplus of Rs 660.96 crore. "This, combined with the opening deficit of Rs 1,596.19 crore, will result in a budget deficit of Rs 935.23 crore at the end of the fiscal year 2023-24," she said.
Finance Minister Neog stated that the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government will finish its two-year term on May 10, 2023. By that date, 40,000 youths will have been recruited in different departments. It is a step toward the government's aim of providing 100,000 government jobs.
"Our government has already employed around 42,000 youths in various departments... The remaining 18,000 are in various stages of recruitment and will be completed very soon," she added. The Assam government will also invest Rs 5,000 crore over the next three years to "transform" over 2 lakh youths into job creators.
