Digital Desk: Assam Crime Investigation Department (CID) arrested former Bajali Superintendent of Police (SP) Siddhartha Buragohain on Monday in connection with the alleged corruption case, reports said.
The former SP was summoned to the Assam CID headquarters earlier today, and this has just happened.
According to official sources, Buragohain was detained under CID P.S. Case No. 14/2023, which was lodged under Sections 120(B)/341/342/448/294/323/307/379/387/427/506 of the IPC and Sections 98(a)/99(3)(4)(5)(6) of the Assam Police Act 2007. He has been brought before the court and placed on police remand pending additional inquiry.
After the corruption case was reported, Buragohain was previously transferred, and his services were attached to the Assam Police headquarters in Guwahati. On Sunday night, he was questioned by the police before being allowed to go.
Sources claim that Bajali DSP Puskal Gogoi, ASP Gayatri Sonowal, and her husband Bobby Singh Sharma were all previously arrested by the CID in connection with the crime.
The CID detained seven people on September 1st, including five Bajali Police officers and two drivers, after allegations of bribery were made against them.
An extensive inquiry led to the arrest of the police officer after a supari businessman made claims.
It should be noted that the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam, set a trap in the first week of August after receiving complaints about people demanding money, but they were unsuccessful since the officials grew suspicious of it. The complaint, however, was determined to be initially accurate. A criminal case was filed on August 31 as a result.
