    Assam: CID seizes over Rs 8 lakh stolen by cyber fraud
    The CID has meanwhile urged people to take cautious and avoid becoming a victim of cybercrimes. 

    Digital Desk: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Assam has frozen Rs 8,15,743 that was the victim of cyber fraud, reports said.

    A senior employee claimed that a man by the name of Tapas Gupta called the helpline number 1930 and indicated that he had gotten an email about claiming incentives.

    However, Rs. 37,469 was fraudulently taken from his State Bank of India (SBI) account when he clicked the link supplied by the cyber fraud.

    After taking prompt action, the CID was able to locate and freeze the money.

    Another issue involved the recent theft of Rs 7,78,27 from a Mehboob Hasan Ahmed-related bank account. Under the guise of providing an internet job, the funds were fraudulently taken. The CID located the money and seized it.

    The CID has meanwhile urged people to take cautious and avoid becoming a victim of cybercrimes. Additionally, they have urged users to avoid clicking any unexpected links sent via email, SMS, or WhatsApp and to never give out their passwords, CVVs, PINs, or OTPs to strangers.

    An elderly couple from Guwahati had two accounts, and over Rs. 7 lakhs of their money were stolen by thieves last month. Dinesh Chandra Dutta, the husband, received a voicemail from an exclusive unlisted number warning that their line would be turned off in a matter of minutes if they didn't pay their electrical bill.

    They were instructed to provide a 100 Rupee recharge to a certain phone number in the message. They quickly recharged the phone number after reading the SMS message. Dinesh Dutta lost Rs. 4,13,900 as a result, and his wife lost Rs. 3,47,100 from her bank account.
