Digital Desk: Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, inaugurated the Golden Silk Park and Trade Centre at Khanapara, Guwahati, on April 1.

The centre will be at the forefront of promoting Assam's renowned silk industry.

CM Sarma posted on Twitter, "Glad to launch the Golden Silk Park and Trade Centre at Khanapara, Guwahati. Our Handloom & Textiles Department's outstanding endeavour will benefit all players in Assam's renowned silk sector."

"There will be no selling of power-loom gamosa or mekhela-chadar in Assam. The weavers must be compensated for their efforts. No one will be permitted to sell gamosas created on power looms under the tight supervision of the Handloom and Textile Department," said CM Sarma at the Golden Silk Park and Trade Centre's inauguration event.

"To help Assamese artists, I urge you to buy hand-loomed Gamosas for the approaching Bihu celebrations. If you notice anyone selling power-loom Gamosas, please notify the appropriate authorities right once ", suggested Chief Minister Sarma.

CM Sarma stated that initiatives should be taken to join up with worldwide partners and research on diversifying and upgrading products to promote and collaborate with international enterprises for a broad exposure of Assam silk.

"The authorities of the Handloom and Textile sector should develop a diverse catalogue and collaborate with designers to refurbish global designs and appeal to worldwide customers," CM Sarma remarked.

The chief minister asked officials to make the park more environmentally friendly to make it more appealing to tourists.
