Digital Desk: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today lambasted MP Gaurav Gogoi for his doubt over running for a seat.
When told that Kaliabor MP Gaurav Gogoi has yet to declare his candidature, CM Sarma joked that leaders like Gaurav Gogoi and Mallikarjun Kharge are as slow as elephants, whereas he described himself as a simple guy with the ability to move and act quickly.
"Big leaders take their time. An elephant goes at a slow pace pace. Big leaders, like Kharge, will move slowly, like elephants. We are ordinary people, thus we move quickly. Elephants move slowly, and big leaders ride them. 'Gajendra Gaman' is what we call it, We cultivate the earth. Our situation is unique. We are in Kokrajhar today and will be in Jorhat or Dibrugarh tomorrow. We'll be ploughing our field," CM Sarma added with a smile.
The Assam Chief Minister's remark comes as it is unclear where present Kaliabor MP Gaurav Gogoi will run in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The Kaliabor seat no longer exists as a result of the delimitation exercise, and it has been replaced by the Kaziranga constituency.
The Congress is yet to begin campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections, whilst the BJP has already begun reaching out to voters through public rallies in various regions of the state.
According to BJP officials, Gaurav Gogoi has little chance of winning the Kaziranga Lok Sabha seat after the redrawing under the delimitation exercise. There is conjecture that Gogoi will run from the Nagaon seat. However, a race for the Nagaon seat is already heating up, with Pradyut Bordoloi and Rockybul Hussain both claiming the ticket.
