    Assam: CM Sarma expresses grief over demise of music maestro Bhupen Uzir
    The noted Assamese music director Bhupen Uzir passed away on Tuesday at the Nemcare Hospitals in Guwahati. 

    Digital Desk: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on January 9 expressed grief over the demise of Assam's greatest music maestro Bhupen Uzir.

    Taking to platform X, Assam CM wrote, "I am saddened to hear of the passing away of Bhupen Uji, a renowned personality in the music industry of Assam. He was a musician who made a great contribution to the cultural world of Assam through his long career in music. The death of Bhupen Uzir, who fascinated several generations through his music, is an irreparable loss to our cultural world. I wish him eternal peace and extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved family and admirers of Uzir".

    The noted Assamese music director Bhupen Uzir passed away on Tuesday at the Nemcare Hospitals in Guwahati. He passed away at the age of 80.

    Nemcare Hospitals resident doctors state that he was admitted to the aforementioned hospital on January 4, 2024, for a variety of health issues.

    Bhupen Uzir made his feature film debut as a music director with "Jeevan Surabhi". Almost twenty Assamese feature films have had his music directed by him.

    In addition, Uzir was employed with the Food Corporation of India (FCI), but he left to follow his passion for music.
    Later on, he set up shop in the city as an auditech studio.
    Uzir departs from his spouse, Shanta Uzir, along with their two daughters.

    As word of Bhupen Uzir's passing circulated around the state, condolence notes began to arrive.

    Assamese singer and actress Deeplina Deka was the first to react, stating,“We lost a legend. Rest in eternal peace Bhupen Uzir sir.”

    "Saddened by the passing of renowned musician Bhupen Uzir, who has enriched the Assamese music world with unique talent and creativity. The cultural community of Assam has lost something irreplaceable with his death. My sincere sympathies go out to the surviving family members and the countless fans," stated Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

    “Deeply saddened to learn about the demise of eminent musician Bhupen Uzir, whose soulful and melodious music contributed immensely to Assamese music and cinema. My sincere condolences to the bereaved family members in this hour of grief and immense loss. May the departed soul attain Sadgati,” tweeted state minister Ashok Singhal.

    State minister Bimal Bora said, “Deeply saddened by the sudden demise of the eminent music director, Bhupen Uzir. A colossal loss to Assam's music and cultural landscape, his legacy will resonate through the melodies he gifted us. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family, friends and well wishers and pray that the music maestro’s soul attains Sadgati.”
