The operations for the solid waste management plant set up at Maa Kamakhya Devalaya started five years back. The plant was set up as part of the Swachta Abhiyan pilot scheme. This is in keeping with the 5 point action plan drawn up by the Kamakhya Devalaya Board together with the Department of Tourism and Guwahati Municipal Corporation.
Coal India Ltd. provided the funding to set up the plant as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.
This initiative will reduce the volume of waste. In addition, it decreases the amount of power needed to produce unique products and therefore helps preserve natural resources.
