Digital Desk: In a significant development, Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has made a significant request for the allocation of land to establish Kanaklata University to the public of Gohpur.
The Chief Minister is seeking 500 bigha, or a significant amount of land, in order to support the establishment of this new educational facility.
Addressing a gathering at Gohpur HSS Playground on the occasion of the 100th birth anniversary of the great freedom fighter martyr Kankalta Baruah, Sarma stated, "I urge the public of Gohpur to provide 500 bighas of land to the state government for the construction of Kanaklata University. In the land, we want to create such a university in which everything from political science to artificial intelligence will be taught under one hood."
In order to start constructing before the end of her 100th birth anniversary, Chief Minister Sarma urged the people of Gohpur to turn over 500 bighas of land and provide it to the committee established by the state government.
In Gohpur, the establishment of Kanaklata University would be a step toward realizing Sarma's vision of growth in both education and the economy. The Chief Minister is asking the people of Gohpur to donate 500 bighas of land to a project that will honor the memory of the martyrs of Assam, whose sacrifices are remembered in memorials like the 'Swahid Stambh' and 'Swahid Udyan' in Guwahati, and improve the academic environment in the area.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had recently announced the establishment of a prospective university in Gohpur. Earlier in October 2023, Majuli's Sri Sri Dakshinpat Xatra offered the land needed for the university.
When the Chief Minister visited Gohpur, he spoke of the necessary actions the government had taken to build a university in the Gohpur subdivision of the Biswanath district. The university would be named in honor of Birangana Kanaklata Baruah, a martyr of the "Quit India Movement," for her great sacrifice.
Under the Halem revenue circle of the Gohpur subdivision, Sri Sri Dakshinpat Xatra is the owner of around 625 bighas of land (lakheraj) at Aforakhat, near NH 15, north of Ghahigaon Chariali. In response to the people's plea to the Xatradhikar of Sri Sri Dakshinpat Xatra for land to establish the university on the aforementioned lakheraj land at Aforakhat, the Xatradhikar has stepped forward to ensure the success of this admirable endeavor on behalf of the people and the Government of Assam.
