    Assam: Civilian mistaken for poacher shot in Baksa, hospitalised
    The police have detained Rakesh Islari, another individual. Islari had gone to the jungle with Nirmal.


    Digital Desk: At Batabari in Assam's Baksa district, forest service personnel opened fire on a civilian they believed to be a poacher, resulting in serious serious injuries.

    The victim has been identified as Nirmal Basumatary. He was transferred to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for more advanced medical care due to his critical injuries.

    According to reports, the incident took place at midnight at the Batabari range near the border with Bhutan.

    Nirmal was reportedly in the forest collecting wood at the time the unfortunate incident took place.

    Police arrived at the scene and began an investigation after being notified of the occurrence.

    Nirmal was initially admitted to the Baksa civil hospital, but his condition worsened and he was transferred to the GMCH.

    On the other hand, the police have detained Rakesh Islari, another individual. Islari had gone to the jungle with Nirmal.

    It is to be noted that investigation into the matter is underway.
