Digital Desk: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Monday made a significant visit to the Batadrawa Than, the revered birthplace of the esteemed Vaishnavite scholar and saint, Srimanta Sankardeva.
This visit was conducted on behalf of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who was unable to visit due to being allegedly denied permission by the Satra authorities.
While speaking to reporters, Gaurav Gogoi said, "I and the local MLA, as representatives of Rahul Gandhi visited Batadrava Than. We prayed for peace and goodwill of people. All the priests present inside the temple said their blessings are with Rahul Gandhi."
Taking to X, Gogoi stated, "On behalf of Shri Rahul Gandhi, I visited the birthplace of Saint Srimanta Sankardeva. Rahul Gandhi was denied permission to visit Batadrava Than by the police citing a law and order pre-scheduled program. The fact is the opposite because there was no program taking place.”
The occasion marked Pran Pratishtha Day, a day of great significance in the religious calendar.
A major cultural dispute erupted in Assam on January 22, 2024, when Congress leader Rahul Gandhi planned to travel to Batadrava Than, the birthplace of the renowned Vaishnavite saint Srimanta Sankardeva.
Now in Assam following his 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' entry into the state, Rahul Gandhi said on Monday that he was not permitted to visit Batadrava Than and could only enter after 3 PM today.
It should be noted that on January 21, Satra officials asked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to visit the site only after 3 PM; however, Gandhi allegedly reached the venue early.
One of the most significant religious figures, social reformers, and cultural icons in India is the towering figure of Srimanta Sankardeva, who lived in the 15th and 16th centuries.
Many people around the country are still motivated by his life and teachings, not only those in Assam. Rahul Gandhi has expressed respect for his neo-Vaishnavist worldview, which prioritizes inclusivity and spiritual devotion over ceremonial customs, in earlier addresses.
