Nearly 350 athletes and officials from Assam are competing in 27 different sports categories at this year's National Games.
Digital Desk: Assam's Ditimoni Sonowal and Popy Hazarika clinched Gold Medal at the 37th National Games in Goa in the 64 kg and 59kg Weightlifting category respectively on October 26.
Ditimoni took the top spot with a lift of 88 kg in Snatch and 112 kg in Clean & Jerk.
Ranoj Pegu took to X to put out, "Heartiest congratulations to ace athlete & Dhemaji's very own Ditimoni Sonowal for clinching the Gold Medal at the 64 kg Weightlifting, 88 kg Snatch and 112 kg Clean & Jerk at the 37th National Games in Goa. This is 2nd Gold for Assam in Weightlifting event. The whole state is proud of her stupendous achievement. Kudos & best wishes."
Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has also congratulated Popy Hazarika for winning a gold medal at the National Games by saying that she has made Assam proud.
Taking to X CM Sarma Wrote, "Many congratulations Popy Hazarika on winning Gold in the 59kg weightlifting category at the 37th National Games in Goa. Assam is proud of your achievement!"
The 37th National Games kicked off with a grand opening ceremony at the Nehru Stadium in Fatorda, Goa. Representing their state with honour and pride, a squad of fifteen Assamese players took part in the players' march past. Seated as the flag bearers of the Assam contingent were weightlifter Sidhant Gogoi and gymnast Upasa Talukdar, who represent the state's outstanding commitment to sportsmanship.
