    Assam Governer adopts 10 TB patients under Nikshay Mitra initiative
    The National TB Elimination Programme carries out the following important actions to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals connected to TB by 2025

    Digital Desk: Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on May 20 at Raj Bhawan adopted 10 state-wide tuberculosis patients as part of the Nikshay Mitra Campaign, a community support programme for TB patients under the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.

    The Governor of Assam presented the food baskets as nutritional support to Dr. M S Lakshmi Priya, Mission Director, NHM Assam, Jayanta Dutta, Zonal Administrative Officer, Dr. Avijit Basu Joint Director (TB), and Dr. Palash Talukdar, WHO Consultant, on behalf of the TB patients.

    Key representatives of the Raj Bhawan and the National Health Mission, Assam, as well as S S Meenakshi Sundaram, Commissioner & Secretary to the Governor of Assam, were present. Swapna Dutta Deka, Secretary to the Governor of Assam.

    As of March 9, 2023, 9.55 lakh of the 9.69 lakh TB patients nationwide who gave their assent had been adopted by Ni-kshay Mitra as part of the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (Ni-kshay Mitra Initiative) programme run by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.

    The National TB Elimination Programme carries out the following important actions to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals connected to TB by 2025, five years earlier than the global targets:

    1. Strategic plan for targeted interventions in high-burden areas, specific to each state and district.

    2. Free tests and medications for TB patients, including those with drug-resistant forms of the disease.

    3. A persistent search for TB cases in susceptible and co-morbid groups.

    4. Integration with Ayushman Bharat - Health & Wellness Centres to localise screening and treatment services.
    5. Involvement of the private sector, including incentives for reporting and managing TB cases.

    6. Expanding molecular diagnostic facilities to the sub-district level.

    7. The Ni-kshay Poshan Yojana provides TB patients with nutritional help.

    8. Intensified IEC efforts to enhance health-seeking behaviour, lower stigma, and increase community knowledge.

    9. Multi-sectoral response with line ministries involved.

    10. Expand TB prevention therapy to pulmonary TB contacts.

    11. Following up on alerted TB cases using the Ni-kshay case-based online portal.
