    Assam: Over 3 lakh Class XI students of Govt and Provincialised schools to receive free bicycles

    Digital Desk: The Cabinet approved the purchase of bicycles for 3, 78,000 Class IX students—boys and girls—from 4372 Government and Provincialized Schools.  

    This was one of the significant choices made during the state government's cabinet meeting on Wednesday in Guwahati.

    The cost of purchasing the bicycles through the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal has been authorised by the state government at Rs. 167.95 crores.

    Informing this, Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu took to Twitter and wrote, “Cabinet has approved the procurement of Bicycles for 3,78,000 students of Class-IX, boys and girls, of 4372 Govt and Provincialised Schools. Rs.167.95 Crore has been sanctioned. The Bicycles are being procured through @GeM_India portal.”




    The cabinet also approved the introduction of a School Rule Book for systematic leadership of schools, which was another significant step. The day-to-day operation of our schools is governed by particular guidelines or standards in 26 different areas.

    The cabinet also approved a change to the Assam Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Rules that will allow the Alumni Association to propose two candidates for the SMC. As a result, former pupils and local elected bodies will have more power to manage primary schools.
