    Assam: PM Modi inaugurates Northeast’s first AIIMS in Guwahati

    Digital Desk: The long-awaited All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), located at Changsari on the outskirts of Guwahati, Assam has been inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday.

    The 950-bed hospital's building expenses amounted to Rs. 1,126 crores. The Prime Minister lay the foundation in May 2017.

    Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, and other dignitaries were also present at the ceremony.

    The centre, which is the first of its kind in the whole Northeast, is expected to greatly improve the local healthcare system.

    He virtually opened three medical schools in Nalbari, Nagaon, and Kokrajhar during the occasion.

    The medical college in Nagaon cost Rs 599.80 crore to build, compared to the Rs 615.47 crore required to build the medical college in Nalbari.

    The medical college in Kokrajhar cost Rs 535.87 crores to construct.

    Today's early arrival of PM Modi in Guwahati. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma gave him a warm welcome at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport.

    The PM will symbolically begin distributing Ayushman Cards to holders of state ration cards today during his day-long visit. In its most recent budget, the state administration highlighted a health insurance programme called Chief Minister Ayushman Asom, which was modelled after the Ayushman Bharat programme of the federal government.

    For the 1.10 crore ration card holders, Ayushman cards would be made. The health programme will start on May 10 to commemorate two years of Himanta Biswa Sarma's coalition government in the state.

    Then, PM Modi will virtually open a top-tier research hospital at IIT-Guwahati. The Government of Assam and IIT worked together to establish the hospital.

    From IIT-Guwahati, PM Modi will take a helicopter to Khanapara Veterinary Field, and from there, he will travel to Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra to attend an event there. At roughly 1.45 pm, PM Modi will attend the Gauhati High Court's Platinum Jubilee celebration's closing ceremony.

    After that, PM Modi will spend some time at Koinadhara Guest House before travelling to Sarusajai Stadium to attend the massive Bihu event, which Assam was hoping to watch to break the record for the largest Bihu performance in a single location.

    While at Sarusajai Stadium, PM Modi will virtually inaugurate or lay the cornerstone for three additional projects, including Assam Petro Chemical Limited's (APL) 500 TPD-Methanol in Namrup, the launch of the Rang Ghar beautification project in Sivasagar, and the laying of the foundation stone for the 4-lane Palasbari-Sualkuchi link bridge.
