Digital Desk: On Sunday, the foundation stone was laid for the renovation of railway stations in Assam under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme in Guwahati's Narengi.

With a budget of Rs 990 crore, Assam would see the renovation of 32 railway stations. The stations will have escalators, lifts, digital signage, CCTV cameras, Wi-Fi, and other passenger-friendly facilities.

The stations will also feature enhanced lighting, landscaping, and parking. The programme will also create job opportunities for locals and increase the state's tourism potential.

Under the plan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has dedicated the restoration of 508 railway stations around the country.

Additionally, the plan is to develop the train stations into world-class facilities with cutting-edge amenities and infrastructure. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will participate in the virtual launch from the Narengi railway station in Guwahati.

The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is part of the Centre's ambition to strengthen the railway sector holistically and improve the passenger experience.
