Digital Desk: Leader of the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I), Paresh Barua, has received a stern warning from Special Director General of Police of the Assam Police, Harmeet Singh.

Singh stated that the commander-in-chief of ULFA-I should come to Guwahati and give warnings to the police in the open rather than issuing them from a remote location while hiding.

Special DGP Harmeet Singh told the media that Paresh Barua should visit Guwahati and openly issue warnings to the police.

"What will he do with the warnings? If Paresh has something to say then he should come here and say it. What is the use of giving out warnings from some far-off place in hiding? They should come out," he stated.
Harmeet Singh's remarks follow ULFA-I commander-in-chief Paresh Barua's recent directive to Assam DGP GP Singh to move around Guwahati freely for a week. The DGP had challenged the outlawed terrorist group, requesting that they attack him if he presented a threat, before making the remark.

Special DGP Harmeet Singh went on to say that Paresh Barua should come to the mainstream and work for Assam's development rather than issuing warnings from there. Additionally, Singh declared that anti-national activities of any kind will not be accepted.

"Anti-national activity won't be accepted. They should go back and contribute to Assam's development if they truly love the state. Ignoring warnings won't accomplish anything. We are prepared to take them on as a police force. And nothing remains in that place. Under the government, the state is developing, and they ought to be involved in that process. Engaging in harmful activities will only make matters worse for the populace, the Special DGP of the Assam Police stated.

In response to GP Singh's challenge, the ULFA-I issued a press release recently stating, "G.P. Singh, speaking to the media on December 15, 2023, gave a call to the ULFA-I, we have taken up the said challenge on two conditions. First, replace the state police officers and constables that G P Singh was hiring for his driver's job, as well as the security forces in West-Southeast Asia (WeSEA) with the CRPF or Indian Army (apart from the youth of the WeSEA region). Second, just show how you would move across Guwahati City freely for a week."
