Digital Desk: Amid a tense week marked by increased bomb threats, Assam police have intensified their crackdown on the banned militant group United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I). In a significant operation, a ULFA-I cadre named Pawan Darji and a suspected linkman were apprehended in Guwahati’s Jalukbari area.

The arrest of Darji followed a high-alert response to a bomb threat at City Centre Mall on G S Road. The threat led to the temporary closure of the mall and the evacuation of its customers and staff. The Basistha police launched their operation based on intelligence inputs, culminating in Darji's arrest.

During interrogation, Darji disclosed the identity of a linkman connected to the militant group. Acting on this information, the Jalukbari police, led by Inspector Charge Pritam Das, subsequently arrested the linkman. The investigation is ongoing to determine further connections and potential threats.

Earlier in the day, the bomb scare at City Centre Mall prompted an urgent evacuation. The mall management issued a notice stating, "FOR TECHNICAL ISSUE MALL WILL BE CLOSED FOR 2 HOURS," while security forces conducted a thorough search. The mall was later reopened after no suspicious items were found.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Mrinal Deka reassured the public, confirming that an email had claimed a bomb was planted at the mall.
However, he dismissed the threat as a hoax, stating, "SSB, CRPF, and Assam Police personnel jointly searched the entire structure. Nothing suspicious turned up."
