Digital Desk: In a significant move to curb drink and drive incidents during New Year celebrations, the Assam Police has bolstered its efforts with increased deployment of traffic interceptor vehicles and breath analysers.

Ten additional vehicles were recently added to the interceptor fleet, accompanied by an allocation of 150 new and enhanced breath analysers, reinforcing the commitment to road safety.

Transport Minister Parimal Suklabaidya, emphasizing the government's dedication, formally handed over the vehicles to the Assam Police. He praised the sophistication of the interceptors in detecting violations and assured ongoing support, including additional equipment if needed, to combat road accidents.

Addressing the media, Suklabaidya revealed that the drive against drunk driving would persist until the culmination of Bihu celebrations, aiming for a festive period free from road rage and accidents.

The handover ceremony, attended by Director General of Police G P Singh and other senior officials, marked a collaborative effort to enhance road safety measures.

Moreover, 10 breath analysers were allocated to specific regions for intensified monitoring. Assam DGP emphasized the importance of widespread analyser use, not confined to urban areas, citing their potential to significantly reduce accidents.

He urged vigilance, particularly among picnickers, highlighting common accident causes such as lack of helmet use, overspeeding, and driving on the wrong side. With these measures in place, Assam aims to ensure a safer and accident-free celebration period.
