Digital Desk: The sudden rise in crimes in the state has made everyone worried, following such an increase in cybercrime incidents, Assam Police came up with the idea and built four cyber police stations to deal with it.

According to a notification released by the Assam Government's Home and Political Department, these cyber police stations would be established to effectively address and prevent cybercrime-related offences committed under the Information Technology Act and other applicable legislation.

Two of these cyber police stations would be located in Guwahati, near the CID headquarters and the City Police Commissioner's office.

As per the announcement, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) will be in charge of both of these Guwahati stations.

The Guwahati Police Commissionerate's Cyber Police Station would operate autonomously within its jurisdiction. Simultaneously, the proposed CID Cyber Police Station will have jurisdiction over the whole state of Assam, except for the territories under the Police Commissionerate in Guwahati.

Notably, each of Dibrugarh and Silchar will have one cyber police outpost. In the meantime, the functioning of these cyber police stations in Dibrugarh and Silchar would be overseen by OC-level personnel.

It is to be mentioned that the Dibrugarh Cyber Police Outpost will have jurisdiction over the districts of Sadiya Police, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, and Dhemaji, which comes under the CID Cyber Police Station's overall jurisdiction.

The outpost in Dibrugarh is said to be built on the premises of the Dibrugarh Sadar Police Station, states Shwetank Mishra (SP) Dibrugarh.

The Silchar Cyber Police Outpost, on the other hand, will have jurisdiction over the districts of Silchar, Hailakandi, Karimganj, and Dima Hasao, which are also within the overall jurisdiction of the CID Cyber Police Station.
