Digital Desk: Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced a massive grant of Rs 2,185.43 Crore for two crucial road projects in the state of Assam to improve connectivity and infrastructure.

The staggering sum of Rs 1,338.61 Crore has been approved for NH-17's enlargement, which will make it a 4-lane road with concrete shoulders. Covering 26.82 kilometers, the entire project falls under Package 2 from Near Mowatari before the Chapar Bypass to the Tulungia section of the Bilasipara-Guwahati highway. By improving communication between Bilasipara and Tulungia, the initiative hopes to provide better access to bordering states like West Bengal and Meghalaya as well as Western and Lower Assam.

Another ground-breaking development is the approval of Rs 846.82 crore for the NH-137 Tamenglong-Mahur section's widening and upgrading. Under Package 7, this 19.68-kilometer project will be carried out in an EPC manner.

The project will improve access to Imphal from the East-West corridor in Assam via NH-27, providing an alternate route to the NH-02 part that runs between Imphal and Kohima and the NH-37 segment that runs between Silchar, Jiribam, and Imphal.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma used the microblogging site to thank the Honourable Prime Minister and Honourable Minister of Road Transport & Highways of the Government of India for their efforts.

He stated, "Your persistent attention to our region has resulted in record-breaking infra projects valued at Rs 3 lakh crore for the entire North East since 2014. We will get closer to our objective of building the greatest roads possible for Assam now that these important projects have been approved."
