Digital Desk: The Assam government has prohibited teachers and non-teaching staff employed by provincialized secondary schools from going back to school or earning a degree while they are still employed, an said official on Wednesday.

Typically, only institutions serving underdeveloped communities, those in distant areas, or those lacking government schools are taken over by the government.
Secondary Education Director Mamata Hojai referred to an outdated section of the Assam Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1965 in a letter to the state's inspectors of schools on Tuesday, urging them to adhere to it.
Hojai said that pursuing professional or academic credentials without authorization by teaching or non-teaching staff members of a provincialized school is against service norms.
She stated, "Departmental proceedings should be immediately initiated against those teaching and non-teaching staff of the provincialised secondary schools who have acquired any academic or professional qualification during the service period without obtaining permission from the appointing authority."
After following the proper procedures, she said, if it is determined that the incumbent has broken the regulation prima facie, they may be subject to the penalties outlined in The Assam Services (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 1964.
