Digital Desk: On Sunday, police in the Kamrup district confiscated drugs worth nearly Rs 12 crore and apprehended three traffickers, an officer said.
The Kamrup district police, under the direction of Additional SP Kalyan Pathak, initiated an operation against the trafficking of the consignment after receiving a tip, according to Special Task Force (STF) Deputy Inspector General Partha Sarathi Mahanta of the Assam Police.
In the early morning hours, three couriers were driving the drugs from Guwahati to Dhubri in an SUV. They stopped the car near Palasbari, where they found 50 soap boxes weighing 700 gm and just as many sachets of heroin inside.
He stated that the three traffickers had been detained and that they were currently being questioned to learn more about the drug cartel.
The DIG added that another SUV involved in an accident on June 25 in Hajo had 500 gm of heroin seized from it.
The van was being utilised by a gang based in Manipur to transport 100 soap boxes worth of heroin, totalling 1.3 kg, on that particular day. The apprehended suspect admitted about a hidden room in the car during questioning,'' the author continued.
Forty more soap cases, each weighing 500 gm, were retrieved from the vehicle's hidden chamber, according to Mahanta.
According to worldwide market norms, the overall worth of the narcotics recovered on Sunday in the two raids will be between Rs 11 and 12 crore, he stated.
