Digital Desk: The Assam government has decided to create 72 temporary Senior Grade-I (SG-I) posts in the Assam Civil Services to accommodate 72 ACS officers in order to reinforce the organizational structure of various ministries and increase administrative efficiency, officials said.

The decision was made during a state cabinet meeting at Janata Bhawan, presided over by chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Assam Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah announced the cabinet decisions, saying that there will be 250 SG-I ACS officers (present strength 178) and that the shortage will be filled by promoting 72 qualified SG-II officers from 1995, 1997, 1999, 2002, and 2004 batches.

"The proposed 72 temporary positions will be raised to the rank of officer. Once an officer is adjusted against regular vacancies at SG-I level or an officer is promoted to selection grade, the temporary SG-I post personal to the officer concerned shall be reverted to SG-II," Jayanta Malla Baruah said.

The Assam Minister further stated that the state cabinet resolved to rebuild the Thana-level Nagarik Committees to create a platform for collaboration between the police and the public.

The state cabinet agreed to reconstruct the Thana-level Nagarik Committees to serve as a forum for coordinating between the police and the general population, the Assam Minister added.

"A committee will consist of a government-appointed chairman, a Member Secretary (Officer-in-Charge of the Police Station), Ex-Officio members, members, and nominated members  (selection in consultation with Guardian Ministers, 3 members nominated by DC and 3 members nominated by SP). "The major goal is to raise public awareness about important social concerns such as drug misuse, people trafficking, witch hunts, domestic violence, and so on," added the Assam Minister.

The Assam cabinet also resolved to offer remuneration to elected PRI members for the smooth operation of PRIs, with remuneration being paid to PRI members' bank accounts every month beginning in April 2022.

Other decisions of the state cabinet include enhancement of urban governance in Assam, approval to the Municipal Corporation (Assam) Conduct of Business Rules, 2022, The Assam Municipal Corporation Election Rules, 2022, approval to the revised pay structure of Judicial Officers of Subordinate Judiciary in line with Second National Judicial Pay Commission’s recommendation, land measuring 11 Bigha – 1 Katha – 11 Lessa at Modopi Cha Bagicha under Garaimari Mouza of Chariduar Revenue Circle in favour of Hare Krishan Movement, Guwahati for setting up a centralized community kitchen, a school for underprivileged children, cultural complex etc.
