Digital Desk: The Assam government has identified land in three locations for the construction of mega milk processing plants, each capable of producing one lakh liters of milk a day.
As part of the Assam Dairy Development Plan, a joint venture company of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and the state government would put up these units, according to Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister Atul Bora, who was speaking at a news conference on Friday.
"A total of six mega plants, each with a one-liter daily milk processing capacity, would be established at various locations throughout Assam by the JV. Three of these lands have been identified in Jorhat, Dibrugarh, and Cachar. The process of identifying more land is underway... We are also looking for locations in Biswanath as well," stated Bora.
The government and NDDB signed a historic deal earlier in January 2022, forming a Rs 2,000-crore joint venture to revolutionize the state's dairy industry.
With the help of six new facilities, the joint venture hopes to process 10 lakh gallons of milk in seven years, which will help around 1,75,000 dairy farmers in Assam.
The Assam government, working with the Union government's different schemes, promises financial aid and support through relevant agencies to ensure the success of this joint effort.
To improve Assam's dairy industry, the NDDB, acting as the driving force, will introduce technological advances such as sex-sorted semen, the Ration Balancing Programme, ethno-veterinary medicine, and manure management programs.
