Digital desk: Senior BJP politician and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, has formally entered the election by submitting his nomination papers for the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha seat. Along with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the presidents of the BJP, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), and United People's Party Liberal (UPPL), Sonowal filed his nomination today in Dibrugarh.
Lurinjyoti Gogoi of the AJP also filed his nomination papers simultaneously for the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha seat. As he officially announces his candidacy for the forthcoming elections, Gogoi will have the backing of alliance parties.
The Assam election will comprise three stages, which are set up to guarantee a democratic process that is both fair and well-organized. The formal election notification is scheduled for release on March 20, and the first phase is scheduled for April 19. Nominations must be submitted by March 27. On March 28, the process will begin, and on March 30, withdrawals must be completed.
Moving forward to the second phase, which is dated on April 26, the deadline for notice is still March 28. April 4 is the deadline for filing nomination papers; April 5 is the day for examination; and April 8 is the date for withdrawals.
The notification date has been fixed for April 12, while the third and final phase of the Assam elections is scheduled for May 7. The deadline for filing nomination papers for this phase is April 19. Following an inspection on April 20, there is a withdrawal deadline of April 22.
