Digital Desk: Lachit Gogoi, the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has been expelled from the party's primary membership with immediate effect.
Gogoi's immediate dismissal was mandated by Saturday's directive of Assam BJP State President Bhabesh Kalita.
Notably, Lachit Gogoi was previously detained by the Charaideo district's Diphu Police.
Gogoi, who was also the deputy president of the OBC Morcha, was detained after one of his audio tapes of a contentious phone call with ATASU President Milan Buragohain went viral. Karbi Anglong Superintendent of Police (SP) Sanjib Saikia filed a complaint at the Diphu Police Station after this audio recording went viral.
Lachit Gogoi mentioned giving money to Buragohain in the viral audio clip, of which Rs. 12.5 lakh was to be provided to SP Sanjib Saikia and Rs. 2 lakh to SP Pushkin Jain of Golaghat.
A lower court then ordered two-day police detention for Gogoi.
