    BREAKING: 1 Foreign student Suspected of Omicron Virus in Dibrugarh University

    Guwahati:  Omicron scare looms large in Dibrugarh University after a foreign student has tested positive for COVID-19. Doctors have suspected for Omicron on the student, though complete reports of the genome sequencing are yet awaited.





    Doctors have reportedly suspected the presence of Omicron variant on the body of the foreign student, said to be hailing from East Africa. Doctors have sent the sample to the North East Institute of Science and Technology (NEIST) in Jorhat, Assam, for genome sequencing. 





    Only after the reports, the doctors will be able to ascertain whether the student has been infected with the Omicron variant or not.

    Sources said, on Monday, the Health Department conducted a contract tracing examination on several students who came in contact with the foreign student. Following it, a student found Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) positive. Moreover, today, another student had tested positive after Rapid Antigen Test.





    District Nodal Officer, Covid, Dr Nabajyoti Gogoi, said, “ICMR test had been conducted to a student from East Africa. After the test, it doubted the presence of the Omicron variant in the student body and so it was sent for genome sequencing. Following it our team conducted contract tracing examination where a student was found RAT positive. More test was conducted by our team and all will be send for genome sequencing and the result will come in three to four days.”
