Digital Desk: In a significant decision, Assam Police officials have been instructed not to speak to the media without prior authorization from the director general of police (DGP).

According to an official order dated May 17, multiple police officers were detected speaking to the media, both print and electronic, where they consciously or unknowingly exposed their views on policy-related issues.

In this regard, police officers in districts and organisations were instructed to exercise caution while speaking to the media and to refrain from expressing opinions on policing or policy issues without first seeking permission from the DGP.

"In light of the foregoing, I am directed to issue this advisory to be cautious in the future when speaking in public or in the press, and not to express your views on policing or policy-related subjects without the approval of the Director General of Police, Assam," added in the order.

The report was signed by the inspector general of police (Admin), Assam, Guwahati.
