Bir Lachit Sena Leader Shrinkhal Chaliha granted Bail

Chaliha was arrested earlier today in Assam's Sivasagar after a video showing him attempting to extort money from a businessman and assaulting him when he refused to pay the necessary sum leaked online.

leader who was detained in an extortion and abuse case, has been granted bail.
On Tuesday, the Chief Judicial Magistrate court in Sivasagar granted his bail
application.

Chaliha
was arrested earlier today in Assam's Sivasagar after a video showing him
attempting to extort money from a businessman and assaulting him when he
refused to pay the necessary sum leaked online.

According
to sources, the Bir Lachit Sena leader will spend the night in Sivasagar jail
before being released the next day. The deadline for obtaining a Rs 15,000 bail
bond has passed.

Shrinkhal Chaliha was nabbed just two days after the Sivasagar Police
purportedly placed him under house arrest. A video of him that went viral on
social media showed him reportedly insulting and spitting on the face of a
businessman in Sivasagar. CCTV footage from 28 April shows a group of men
entering a commercial facility in Sivasagar and engaging in a verbal
altercation, during which the leader allegedly spit on the businessman's face
and fled.
