Digital Desk: A full emergency was declared at Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram airport on Thursday following a bomb threat received by Air India flight 657 from Mumbai. The plane, which landed around 8 a.m., was quickly moved to an isolation bay, and all 135 passengers and crew members were promptly evacuated.
According to sources who spoke with PTI, the bomb threat was reported by the Air India pilot as the aircraft neared Thiruvananthapuram. The plane is currently being inspected, and an investigation into the threat's origin has been initiated.
Air India issued a statement noting that a "specific security alert" was detected during the flight from Mumbai to Thiruvananthapuram. The airline confirmed that "the crew executed all necessary security procedures with passenger safety as the highest priority."
Air India provided a timeline of the incident, stating that the bomb threat was communicated by the pilot at 7:30 a.m., and a full emergency was declared at the airport at 7:36 a.m. The flight landed at 8 a.m., and passengers were safely evacuated by 8:44 a.m.
Airport operations have reportedly continued without disruption, according to sources.
