Digita desk: The Boxing Federation of India (BFI), in collaboration with REC Limited, is organizing the Eastern Open Talent Hunt, continuing its back-to-back three successful talent hunt programs. It is going to start from March 3 to March 18 at the Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium in Guwahati. Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria will inaugurate the event at 3 pm today.
This initiative is to come up with some promising boxing talent from the eastern region of India. Speaking at a press conference in Guwahati on March 2, BFI Secretary General Hemanta Kumar Kalita expressed great enthusiasm. He said, “We are excited to announce the commencement of the Eastern Open Talent Hunt in Guwahati on Sunday.
The tournament is for all categories; the first junior and sub-junior events for boys and girls from March 3 to March 9 will be followed by youth categories for men and women from March 12 to 18. Registration for all categories remains open until March 4, offering participants a chance to join the competition.
The winner will receive gold, silver, and bronze medals with prize money of Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000, and Rs 5,000, respectively. Furthermore, eight quarterfinalists in each weight category will secure qualification for the national championships to be held in Haryana. The national championships serve as a gateway to elite training; with winners directly qualify to the national camp for enhanced skill development and preparation for future competitions.
