CM Sarma calls Rahul, Priyanka Gandhi 'Amul Babies'; Congress reacts

Reacting to the BJP leader’s remark, Congress MP Pramod Tiwari said Sarma should not give statements that are against the dignity of the CM’s post.

Digital Desk: Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have been called "Amul babies" by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who further stated that people would prefer to visit Kaziranga National Park than seeing them.

"Why would people of Assam go to visit the "Amul babies" of the Gandhi family? They seem fitting for Amul's campaign when you look at them. People would rather prefer to visit Kaziranga to see the tigers and rhinos," Sarma said.

Reacting to the BJP leader’s remark, Congress MP Pramod Tiwari said Sarma should not give statements that are against the dignity of the CM’s post.

"He keeps saying such things because the BJP does not trust them, which is why he left the Congress to join them. He ought not to make such claims," he said.

Five Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam– Jorhat, Kaziranga, Dibrugarh, Sonitpur, and Lakhimpur– going to the polls on April 19.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke at an election rally in Assam's Borkura field in Nalbari earlier today. He claimed to have approached people in 2014 with hope, in 2019 with confidence, and in 2024 with guarantee.

The prime minister said that a "Surya Tilak" ritual commemorating Lord Ram's birth was being held in the Ayodhya temple 500 years after it was first celebrated.

"Today, Modi's promise is being carried out nationwide, and the North East is a living example of this. The BJP has turned the Northeast, where the Congress had given problems, into an area full of opportunities. Modi worked for peace and security while Congress promoted separation. In ten years, Modi accomplished what Congress could not in sixty," he declared.

Modi was in the area to support three NDA candidates who were in attendance at the rally: United People's Party candidate Jayanta Basumatary for the Liberal Party in Kokrajhar; Phani Bhushan Choudhury of the Asom Gana Parishad for Barpeta; and Bijuli Kalita Medhi of the BJP for the Guwahati seat.
