On August 5, Guwahati experienced severe rainfall, resulting in significant waterlogging across several areas and causing disruptions for commuters and schoolchildren. Water accumulation was reported on nearly all peripheral roads, leaving many people stranded in traffic for hours.

Individuals returning from work, schoolchildren, and even ambulances were caught in traffic delays until late in the evening due to the flooded roads.

In response to the flash floods triggered by the torrential rains, all educational institutions within the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) area have been ordered to close on Tuesday, August 6. This directive, which affects both government and private schools, has been issued by the district commissioner's office under Section 30.2 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, to ensure public safety.
