    DSP Puskal Gogoi arrested in connection with Bajali corruption case

    Digital Desk: Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Puskal Gogoi was arrested on Sunday night in connection with the corruption case in Bajali by the Crime Investigation Department (CID), Assam. 

    Sources claim that DSP Gogoi was taken into custody hours after Gayatri Sonowal, a former assistant superintendent of police (ASP), and her husband Bobby Singh Sharma were taken into custody earlier in the day.

    It should be noted that on September 1, the CID detained seven people, including five Bajali Police officers and two drivers, on suspicion of bribery. Puskal Gogoi, Dy SP (HQ), Bajali, and SI were among the five detained police officers. Anup Jyoti Patiri, O/C, Patacharkuchi PS; SI (P) Debajit Giri, i/c Bhawanipur OP; ASI Sasanka Das of Patacharkuchi PS; ABC Injamamul Hassan, PSO of Smti Gayatri Sonowal, the then Addl SP (HQ), Bajali; and ASI Sasanka Das of Patacharkuchi PS. Deepjoy Roy and Nabir Ahmed were the drivers participating in the illegal activity.

    A supari businessman made claims that led to the arrest of the police officer and prompted a thorough inquiry.

    It was found that the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam, set a trap in the first week of August after getting complaints about people demanding money, but they were unsuccessful because the officials grew suspicious of it. The complaint, however, was determined to be initially accurate. A criminal case was filed on August 31 as a result.
