Digital Desk: On Thursday morning 27 January 2022, The Assam Transport Department has launched a movement against the vehicle owners, who are yet to file their taxes.
The officials of The Kamrup (Metro) district administration have begun to check vehicles in Guwahati since Thursday.
According to the DTO, Gautam Das, the Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma has instructed the department to take strict actions against tax defaulters and that is why the above-mentioned operation is being carried out across the city, named ‘ Operation Sarkhar’ to collect the taxes.
The DTO officials aim to collect approximately a sum of Rs. 100 crore from such tax defaulters across the city.
He also added that non-filing of the tax is an economic offense and the Transport officials would seize such vehicles.
The DTO also said that the department is ready to help vehicle tax defaulters for which they must come to the transport office, and demand notices have been already issued to the car owners who are yet to file their taxes.
