'Dare to Dream' football academy launched in Meghalaya
The chief minister stated, "This is a positive start and I am confident that this will bring out many talents from around the region."

Digital Desk: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma officially launched the "Dare to Dream" Academy on May 18. This residential football academy is a joint project of BB Football Schools and the Dream Foundation.

Legendary Indian footballer Bhaichung Bhutia, representatives from the Dream Foundation, and SAI officials were all present for the launch at the SAI Training Centre in NEHU today.

According to the information provided, the collective project that helped train six Meghalayan football players that competed in the Indian League is now training more than 50 players from throughout the North East.

The chief minister stated, "This is a positive start and I am confident that this will bring out many talents from around the region."

Bhaichung Bhutia, a former captain of the Indian football team, stated that Meghalaya has a lot of potentials to produce players at the national and international levels. This has been backed by the state's recent success, which witnessed players advance to the Santosh Trophy Cup finals.

However, he emphasised the importance of nurturing and identifying these talents at the grassroots level from across the region.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma stated, "If you look at the whole picture, even now, whether it's at the under-17 or senior level, a huge majority of players are from the Northeast. We must acknowledge that many of these talents have emerged almost ungrounded, on their own, without the right infrastructure and support. However, despite these, a sizable amount has made the national team."

"Imagine what a difference it would make if we were able to offer the necessary infrastructure, training, and science. Our future is bright," he added.

Sangma added that many young people with talent are involved in sports across a variety of disciplines. "Northeast will be able to make a significant contribution to the country's total sports sector in the coming years. I hope that our players succeed in making the national squad, the world cup, and perhaps even the global championship. Yes, our dream is enormous, but we're starting small," Sangma stated optimistically.
