Dibrugarh University confers prestigious degree of (D.Litt.) to Eminent writer Nirupama Borgohain

Digital Desk: Nirupama Borgohain, a prominent writer and literary figure, was awarded the prestigious degree of Doctor of Literature (D.Litt.) (Honoris Causa) by Dibrugarh University today.

Prof. Jiten Hazarika, Vice-Chancellor, and Paramananda Sonowal, Registrar of Dibrugarh University, presented her with the degree at her Guwahati residence of Borgohain.

It is worth noting that, although the honorary degree of D.Litt. was supposed to be conferred on Borgohain by the Vice President of India and the Chief Guest of the XXI Convocation of Dibrugarh University on May 3, 2023, in the presence of the Chancellor of the University, the Chief Minister of Assam, and several other eminent personalities; she was unable to attend the convocation ceremony held at the university premises due to certain health issues. As a result, it was eventually agreed to confer the degree on Borgohain in her apartment.

Nirupama Borgohain an eminent Assamese writer, was awarded an honorary degree by Dibrugarh University during the XXI Convocation. The university administration opted to award the honorary degree at her residence in a genuine gesture, ensuring that her contributions to literature were fully recognised. The event began with the entrance of the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar at Borgohain's residence, where they were enthusiastically welcomed by Borgohain's family members and well-wishers.

As officials of the Dibrugarh University administration approached the premises, the entire environment brimmed with excitement and anticipation. Prof. Jiten Hazarika addressed the audience, underlining Borgohain's enormous contributions to Assamese literature and her impact on the region's literary environment. He commended her literary works, which have enthralled readers for decades and include novels, short tales, and essays.

The Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University stated, "Nirupama Borgohain's literary prowess and commitment to the preservation of Assamese culture have been truly remarkable." Her works have not only enhanced our literary history but have also inspired generations of writers. It is a privilege for us to bestow the D.Litt. (Honoris Causa) Degree on her today."

The Vice-Chancellor awarded the honorary degree to Borgohain, who accepted it with respect and thanks. Smt. Borgohain expressed her heartfelt gratitude for receiving such an amazing distinction from Dibrugarh University.

The ceremony concluded with a vote of appreciation from the Registrar, who thanked Nirupama Borgohain and her family for graciously hosting the wedding.

It should be noted that Nirupama Borgohain, via her extraordinary literary achievements, has become an inspiration for budding writers and a source of cultural pride for the people of Assam.
