    Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption arrest Circle officer of Thelamara in bribery case

    Guwahati: Amid the ongoing Assam government campaign against corruption, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption arrested Circle officer of Thelamara, Sonitpur district Barenya Ranjan Barthakur on Sunday.






    He was arrested after a raid conducted by the anti-corruption team at the residence of a former IAS officer and father of Barenya Ranjan Barthakur, Dilip Barthakur at Gandhibasti.






    Barenya was arrested for his alleged involvement in instructing a Lat Mandal to demand a bribe from a person for alleged involvement in an illegal land dealing case.

    As per the report, based on a complaint, the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption team laid a trap on September 27 and arrested the Lat Mandal of the Thelamara revenue circle, Gulzar Hussain, red-handed from the Bhangagarh area.






    The complainant claimed that Hussain threatened him in a false involvement in an illegal land dealing case.






    The complainant said that Hussain demanded Rs 8 lakhs from him as a bribe to remove his name from the list of land brokers who were involved in such activities.






    As per the official report, a case was registered in Anti-Corruption Bureau Police Station vide ACB PS No. 09/2021 U/S 7(a) of PC Act against Hussain.






    Police interrogation Hussain revealed that Barenya Ranjan Barthakur instructed him to collect bribes from the individual.






    According to reports, Barenya is the director of Barthakur IAS Academy founded by his father, Dilip Barthakur.
