    Former Assam DGP Deepak Narayan Dutta passes away

    DN Dutta, a notable IPS officer from the 1971 Assam-Meghalaya cadre batch, was born on December 2, 1946.

    Digital Desk: The DGP, Assam, GP Singh, and the entire Assam Police deeply mourned the demise of Former DGP of Assam, Deepak Narayan Dutta (retd.) on December 31, 2023, at 01:00 hrs at Hyderabad.

    Assam Police sends its deepest condolences to his wife, son, and daughter, as well as to other bereaved family members.

    DN Dutta, a notable IPS officer from the 1971 Assam-Meghalaya cadre batch, was born on December 2, 1946.

    With his appointment as the Director General of Police for Assam in 2005, Dutta served in several roles till his superannuation on December 31, 2006.

    Following his retirement, he held positions as State Chief Information Commissioner and Member of the State Police Accountability Commission.

    Acknowledged for his impeccable moral character, he received the Governor's Gold Medal for deserving service in 1991. In addition to being a severe police officer, Dutta was a kind person, a lecturer, and a musician of classical music.

    He was an instructor at Cotton College before he became a police officer. Even after losing his voice box due to throat cancer in 1997, Dutta continued to perform his job with dedication, winning respect for his unshakable devotion to the people of Assam.

    He was regarded as a Guardian to the entire Assam Police family and was well-known for his kind demeanor and emphasis on family values.

    On January 1, 2024, the remains will be flown from Hyderabad to the Assam Police headquarters at 2:00 PM for last respects.

    The cremation is expected to take place at Nabagraha Crematorium on the same day from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM. To show respect for the departed soul, the unit flag at all Assam Police Units and Organizations shall fly at half mast.
