    GMC Raid: Two brokers held for collecting illegal tax in parking slots 
    Digital Desk: Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) raid on Wednesday brought light to the illegal activities conducted by the brokers in Guwahati city. GMC, in association with Assam police, raided brokers collecting money illegally in the name of tax in the parking slots.

    On Wednesday, GMC raid retained two brokers from Guwahati for collecting money illegally. The two brokers have been identified as Chanakya Pathak and Bablu Rai. 

    These brokers were collecting money from the citizens illegally in Paltanbazar and Panbazar. During the drive, GMC and police held these brokers for their activities.

    Police stated that Pathak and Rai were charging money in the name of parking showing old municipal documents. Under GMC raid, both these brokers are presently kept in Paltanbazar police station for further inquiry.

    Lately, GMC has issued an order that shopping malls, markets places that are not under the authority of GMC cannot collect illegal fees for parking. Moreover, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has ordered officials to take strict measures against all brokers who are making the life of common people miserable through their illegal activities. 

    The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) made 43 parking places free for common people in Guwahati city. These parking places are for public use. The GMC took this determination to confirm that parking brokers do not charge additional money in the name of parking. 

    To set these measures to be factual, GMC and police authorities are keeping hawk eyes on all those mafias charging illegal fees from common people unlawfully.
