Digital Desk: Hours after an FIR was filed in connection with the Ganeshguri accident, Assam police arrested an AK Construction Company contractor from Soteea in the Biswanath district on Friday night.

The arrested contractor has been identified as Parijat Saikia. On Saturday morning, he was brought to the Dispur police station for further investigation.

Guwahati police arrested the director of the construction company earlier yesterday. The arrestee, identified as B. Balaji, was apprehended from his office in the city's Narengi area. He later appeared before a court.

M Venkateswara Rao is the owner of AK Construction Company. It is listed under Borewell Contractors in Guwahati and was hired for a water supply project at 12 different locations throughout the city. The Jal Board, however, discovered various discrepancies in their work.

Moreover, the construction company reportedly did not obtain approval from the Transport and Public Works Departments.

It should be noted that a horrible incident happened on Thursday in the Ganeshguri area of Guwahati, taking the life of one student. Following this, the Guwahati Metropolitan Drinking Water and Sewerage Board filed an FIR against AK Construction Company after finding construction disparities caused by negligence.

It is claimed that the construction company did not repair potholes after the work was completed and did not lay slabs to cover manholes in the required regions.

AK Construction Company is one of the company given a contract to install pipelines in Guwahati as part of a JICA-supported water supply project.
