Digital Desk: In a significant breakthrough in the Golaghat triple murder case, the police arrested the mother and brother of the prime accused on Thursday. The arrests came one day after they were detained for questioning in connection with the brutal killings.
The accused individuals, identified as Saleha Begum, the mother, and Hizbul Rahman, the elder brother of the prime accused, were produced before a lower court after their arrest. The court proceedings are expected to shed more light on their alleged involvement in the heinous crime that claimed the lives of three family members.
Earlier, the police had detained Saleha Begum and Hizbul Rahman for questioning on Wednesday. The move was triggered after the sole survivor of the family, Ankita Ghosh, came forward and made shocking allegations against them. Ankita, who managed to survive the horrific incident, had previously filed a complaint at the police station in 2022, accusing the mother and elder brother of assaulting her.
According to Ankita's statements to the reporters, the mother of the prime accused had attacked her by violently pulling her hair, while his elder brother brutally kicked her in the stomach. Disturbingly, Ankita also revealed that the police had failed to take any action when she first reported the assault.

The explosive revelations made by Ankita in the media forced the police to take immediate action. Hizbul Rahman, who had been on the run since the day of the triple murder, was apprehended by the authorities along with his mother, Saleha Begum, for interrogation.
After detaining them, the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Golaghat district informed that after the questioning, if they were found to be involved in the tragic incident, they would be arrested.
The heart-wrenching incident took place at Hindi School Road in Golaghat on Monday afternoon, where three members of the Ghosh family, Sanjeev Ghosh, Junu Ghosh, and Sanghamitra Ghosh, were brutally murdered. The prime accused, Nazibur Rahman, surrendered himself to the police and was accompanied by a 9-month-old infant, who had been reported missing since the time of the crime. It is alleged that the accused eloped with the infant following the incident.
