Digital Desk: In a bid to revolutionize urban transportation and enhance commuters' convenience, the first-ever app-based city cab service, 'ASTC City Cab,' officially commenced its operations on Wednesday. Launched on a trial basis by the Government of Assam on June 26, the service successfully completed its pilot run and is now all set to cater to the city's travel needs with its fleet of 50,000 cabs.

The 'ASTC City Cab' app, deemed reliable and user-friendly, promises customers a seamless experience, along with budget-friendly fares and zero cancellation charges. As the app opens its doors to the public, commuters can download it from app stores and access the cab services with just a few taps on their smartphones.

One of the significant advantages of this new cab service is the elimination of commission fees for drivers, except for a nominal charge of Rs. 12.50 per day. This move is expected to boost driver earnings and attract more professionals to join the 'ASTC City Cab' fleet, ultimately benefiting both drivers and riders.

The geographical coverage of the service is noteworthy as it will extend to the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBI), facilitating travelers' ease in commuting to and from the airport. Additionally, the cab service will also cater to long-distance travel requirements, prioritizing passenger safety and convenience.

Drivers interested in becoming part of the 'ASTC City Cab' service can begin their registration process starting today, opening up new employment opportunities in the city. Simultaneously, customers eagerly awaiting this much-anticipated service can now access the app after a successful trial period of one month.

The launch of 'ASTC City Cab' represents a significant step towards modernizing public transportation in Guwahati. By integrating technology and fostering a driver-friendly environment, the app-based cab service is poised to alleviate travel woes for the city's residents and visitors alike. As the service expands its reach and continues to improve with user feedback, it has the potential to become an indispensable part of Guwahati's urban landscape.

The introduction of 'ASTC City Cab' not only signifies a shift towards a more digitized and convenient transportation system but also reflects the government's commitment to promoting sustainable, efficient, and passenger-centric transit options in the region.
