Child rights activist Miguel Das praised the announcement and promised to write to the court, recognizing Dr. Baruah's commendable initiative. Das wants to suggest Dr. Baruah as the official support person who will be in charge of paying the minors' expenses.
Here is what Miguel Das commented on the Facebook post-
In May of this year, Dr. Waliul Islam and his wife, Dr. Sangeeta Dutta, were taken into custody on charges of allegedly torturing and abusing adopted children. The adopted girl and her twin were allegedly abused physically and sexually, with one of them being tied to the house's roof in the sweltering sun on multiple occasions.
The incident was made public when Miguel Das revealed in a Facebook post that he had been receiving complaints for a while regarding the doctor couple who frequently tied their adopted daughter on their terrace in the sweltering summer heat.
The entire city was in shock over the tragic incident, and citizens were calling for harsh punishment for those involved.
After they were taken into custody, stunning information surfaced that left officials perplexed and the society in general disgusted. Under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, both were accused.
