    Heavy rainfall likely to lash Assam, IMD issues orange alert for several parts

    Digital Desk: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday predicted Assam is likely to witness significant rainfall in a few districts.

    For a few districts in Assam, the department has issued an orange alert till September 22.

    The districts that have been issued orange alerts are:

    1.   Kokrajhar
    2.   Chirang
    3.   Baksa
    4.   Bongaigaon
    5.   Barpeta


    Some areas will have "light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy with extremely heavy rainfall," the Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati's weather forecast states, adding that "Thunderstorm/Lightning at isolated places."


    Stating the current meteorological condition, the centre said, "moisture intrusion brought on by strong low-level winds from the Bay of Bengal to Northeast India is predicted to last for the next 3–4 days. Over Assam, heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms with lightning are likely to occur during the next 24 hours. Following that, during the following 48 hours, heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms with lightning is likely to occur at isolated locations."
