    Indian Army rescues 500 tourists stranded in North Sikkim due to landslides

    Digital Desk: The Indian Army on Friday rescued 500 tourists who were traveling to Lachung and Lachen Valley but were stranded at Chungthang due to landslides and roadblocks. In Gen A Lachen, Lachung, and Chungthang, heavy rainfalls were reported. Heavy rains were reported in Gen A Lachen, Lachung, and Chungthang.


    At the request of SDM Chungthang, troops from the Indian Army's Trishakti Corps sprung into action and rescued the stranded tourists.


    The stranded tourists, including 216 men, 113 women, and 54 children, were relocated to three different Army camps and given hot meals and warm clothes. The troops vacated their barracks to accommodate the tourists for the night.


    Three medical teams were formed to examine all the tourists. A woman who had visited Gurudogmar Lake during the day complained of acute headache and dizziness. A medical team from a nearby field hospital rushed to the scene and discovered signs of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). She received rapid medical attention and was transferred to the medical hospital's intensive care unit. 


    The forces' rapid response prevented any mishaps and assured the comfort of the stranded tourists. Meanwhile, attempts are being made to clear the route as soon as possible. The tourists will be provided with all necessary support till the passage is cleared for their continued journey.
