Jorhat: Moral policing by locals after shop owner misbehaves with specially-abled boy

Jorhat: In another incident of moral policing, an angry mob forced a non-Assamese shop owner to kneel down for misbehaving with a specially-abled boy here on Saturday.

Reportedly, the shop owner identified as Goju misbehaved with the specially-abled boy named Pinku Sharma when he went to Goju's shop to purchase tiles.

Goju, the owner of the Shyam Steel and Sanitize shop, misbehaved with the boy and even went on to say that he would urinate on him after a fight broke out between the two.

"Goju was arguing with one of his customers. Seeing the commotion I felt like entering the shop and stop the chaos. But due to my disability I stopped there itself. But Goju seeing me trying to help the customer, yelled and even threatened me by saying that he will urinate on him." said Pinku Sharma.

Following this, a resentment situation occurred among the Assamese people who rushed to the shop to teach a lesson to the shop owner.

A person among the crowd even said, "It's disheartening to see a man who is already disabled, being abused and threatened by a non-Assamese person. It's absolutely intolerable."

The mob, while speaking to the media, said, "We have all gathered here to teach a lesson to the shop owner and to all non-Assamese people residing here that such incidents won't be tolerated in the future. And even if such instance takes place again in future, the consequences will be harmful."
